With the 2023 Selangor state elections coming up on August 12 (Saturday), many of the politicians involved have been actively campaigning to convince voters to give them a seat at the table.

Among them is the youngest candidate, MUDA’s 23-year-old Melanie Ting who is running for the N.19 Bukit Antarabangsa ADUN seat in Ampang.

She recently took to her Twitter account to showcase herself campaigning in Bukit Antarabangsa, where she shared her belief in protecting animals, the environment and the people against overdevelopment.

She wrote, “This is your chance to send a 23-year-old wakil rakyat (people’s representative) to DUN Selangor to represent your voice. Bukit Antarabangsa, don’t forget to choose the right Ting!”

In her video, she shared why people should vote for her.

“My name is Melanie Ting, I am 23-years-old, I believe that everyone deserves to serve Malaysia, if you have the heart to serve for Malaysians, especially people in Bukit Antarabangsa. My family are working class people, they work day and night, it taught me how to be disciplined, it taught me how to be independent and that is the character that I have right now.”

“I really want to champion for environmental protection. Even though the flood and the tanah runtuh (landslide) happened in 2008, people in Bukit Antarabangsa are still worried when it comes to heavy rain. When the overdevelopment happened, trees are getting cut, snakes are getting into houses, so many haiwan liar (wild animals) around Bukit Antarabangsa and they are not protected because of over development,” she said.

She went on to add that she joined politics to serve, so that when people call her YB, it won’t be Yang Berhormat (the honorable) but Yang Berkhidmat (the one who serves).

Many responded by sharing their belief that Ting requires more working experience before becoming the voice of the people, and that her speech didn’t convince them that she is ready to serve.

One person even pointed out that Ting should watch old videos of how Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, had campaigned in order to learn a thing or two.
