A social media influencer’s action of taking a luxury car to sea via a platform towed by a boat has led to him being detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritime Malaysia) in Terengganu, yesterday (September 3).

According to a report by Harian Metro, the Terengganu State Maritime Director, Maritime Captain Hamiludin Che Awang, shared that the influencer was arrested during Operation Iman, while he was 16 nautical miles northwest of Kuala Terengganu, near Pulau Bidong, at 6 PM.

The influencer involved has placed a car on a platform towed by a passenger boat, which violated the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 (MSO).

“The platform was built without safety equipment and could pose a safety risk to the crew, passengers and others out in the waters,” he said.

His department also detained another boat that was accompanying the filming for operating without a valid license from the Marine Department. Both boats were seized, and the influencer was arrested along with 6 crew members, the captain and 6 passengers.

“The boat with its crew and passengers was brought into the Terengganu State Maritime Jetty at around 2 AM this morning (September 4) for further investigations,”

“The case will be investigated under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for violating the valid conditions of the license, operating without a valid license and carrying out towing activities without permission,” he added.
