Often referred to as the most noble profession there is, nurses don’t receive nearly as much credit as they deserve for carrying out their day-to-day tasks. Besides acting as a doctor’s right-hand man, they even serve to care for their patients in ways that go above and beyond their stipulated job scope.

A recent TikTok video has been making waves online after a staff worker named Muhammad Nadzry from the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar, Johor, caught a moment of his colleague seeing to an elderly patient. In the clip shared to his page @muhammad.nadzry, the user recorded how his friend went on to feed and clean a patient in the hospital.

Wiping the elderly man’s chest at first, the male nurse gently scooped a spoonful of rice before carefully feeding the patient. Ensuring that the elderly man did not miss any of the dishes in his meal, the nurse mixed multiple items together so the man received all the nutrients he required for the meal.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Nadzry said that the male nurse in the video, whose name is Hafiz, was looking after the patient as he did not have a wife or caretaker, and was admitted into the hospital alone. Nadzry stated that the patient was situated in the orthopaedic ward for an operation, and needed assistance for his regular activities such as eating and bathing.

Receiving immense praise online, many people applauded nurse Hafiz for being kind-hearted and acting diligently to care for the patient, who had no one else to assist him.

“This is how hospital workers should be. Outsiders just know how to compliment them, but remain calm and carry out your duty with a sincere heart,” wrote one user in reference to Hafiz.

Other nurses also recalled experiences from the past where they had to carry out similar duties for their patients, with one nurse explaining that this task is not part of their official duty, but a common sensical practice necessary should they see a patient seeking aid.

“Reminds me of the time I had to do this for a patient of mine. Tears streamed down my face cause when my own mother was warded, I couldn’t go back home to see or take care of her. In that situation, someone else had to care for my mother,” wrote one user.
