Driving signifies one of the biggest forms of independence for adults, and attaining one’s licence brings them a step closer to realising this privilege. However, did you know that preparing for driving school does not have to be as difficult or taxing as some make it out to be?

Sarawakian driving school instructor Isa Salimin, otherwise known as Cikgu Isa, recently shared a fun fact to his TikTok page @isasalimin that most driving school learners may not be aware of: Students are allowed to bring a small pillow with them to bolster their back during practice and for their official driving test, otherwise known as the Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) Exam.

In the video, Isa displayed how one of his students brought her own pillow for a practice lesson. Placing it on the driver’s seat in the car, the student then adjusted the pillow to sit properly at her back before starting her journey on the driving course.

Carrying out the test, it seemed as though the student was in full confidence and control of her practice session, manoeuvring the course carefully with instruction from Isa.

In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Isa revealed that the primary purpose of using a pillow during driving tests is to allow shorter students to reach the brake pedal and clutch.

However, Isa did reveal that students are required to bring along their own pillow if they seek to bolster themselves. Teachers and authorities at the centre do not provide such a luxury for pupils.

“Learners can also do the same for their actual JPJ Exam. In both instances, they need to ask permission from their instructor or JPJ officer before starting the practice session or test.”

“But they will also see the suitability of its inclusion, whether or not the pillow is comfortable for the student to reach the steering wheel, and so on, so forth,” said Isa to WORLD OF BUZZ.
