This doctor put the lives of others first even when he wasn’t on duty!

According to an article by FMT, Dr Sanjiv Joshi voluntarily distanced himself from the hospital, the clinic and his family for 2 weeks after treating a Covid-19 case while on duty. The Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur cardiologist’s conscious and smart actions received praises from Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“Dr Sanjiv was treating Case 29 (a woman who shared a room with Case 24) who later tested positive for Covid-19. Dr Sanjiv then voluntarily distanced himself (from the public) for 14 days. I hope those who came into close contact with him will emulate his action to do what is right,” he said”

On Facebook, Hisham noted that Sanjiv tested negative for the coronavirus, but decided to incubate himself either way for safety precautions. Hisham also commented on a statement released by the hospital stating that all staff and patients that had come in contact with case 24 (a Japanese patient) since the 26th of February had tests carried out on them. A student nurse (case 27) and patient tested positive.

Besides that, a viral Whatsapp message also urged citizens to stay away from Bangsar and Pantai hospitals for the next 10 days as the patient which was treated by Sanjiv (case 29), contracted the virus from case 24, same as the student nurse.

All patients and staff which then came in contact with the student nurse were quarantined and even though tests show negative, they have been under close monitoring. The third patient, (M’sia’s 29th case) also shared a room with case 24 and is currently in an isolation ward at Sungai Buloh Hospital. Pantai Hospital also said that it would continue to follow all policies and processes by the health ministry in order to ensure the safety of both staff and patients.

“The hospital is practising multiple preventive measures including limiting entry points to the hospital and checking the temperature and symptoms of everyone who comes to the hospital”, said the statement.
