Earlier, a 17-year-old from the United Kingdom (UK) mysteriously vanished after taking a one-way flight and was last spotted at Manchester Airport on June 5.

Police later confirmed that he had flown to Malaysia, where he was granted a 90-day visa upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

He sent an email to his family a month after he disappeared

David Balisong was reported missing by his family after arriving in Malaysia, with his last known location being a bus ride to Kuala Lumpur Sentral (KL Sentral).

It was earlier reported that he left home in the middle of his A-level exams and secretly flew to Malaysia alone without telling anyone.

His family grew worried when he didn’t come home from college on Friday evening (June 6), and later found out he had taken his passport with him.

On July 9, David sent an email telling his family not to worry or try to look for him, but didn’t indicate when he planned to return home

His heartbroken mother, Minerva Balisong, later flew to Malaysia to search for him, convinced the email wasn’t actually written by him because of the unusual wording.

David was found safe at a hotel

In the latest update, Berita Harian reported that David was found safe at a hotel along Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed that David was found by a team of officers and personnel from the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent.

“For now, I can confirm he’s been found, and more details will be shared once further checks, including on his condition, are completed,” Fadil said.

Berita Harian also reported that upon finding David, his mother recognised him despite the physical changes caused by significant weight loss.

“He’s doing fine. He’s only been eating fast food and has lost a lot of weight, but I knew it was really him. We just met him, and I still can’t believe it. His hotel roommate reported him to the police and is now waiting for the authorities to take his statement,” she said.
