Marriage is never easy and fights are bound to happen. But couples should never resort to violence as a means of expressing their anger as harmful things could happen, whether they are intended or not.

A man from China in Hongkou district got into an argument with his 30-year-old wife on 17th October 2016 just 10 months after they got married. Zhu Xiaodong, 30, then strangled the woman to death and hid her body in a freezer for 106 days at their home balcony, according to AsiaOne.

During this time, the clothing store clerk used his wife’s credit card and spent about 150,000 yuan (RM90,000) travelling to hotels with another woman. He also took on her identity on her social media accounts and replied to text messages she had received from her parents and friends.

However, on 1st February 2017, he couldn’t hide the truth any longer as he and his murdered wife were invited to her father’s birthday dinner that evening. She was the only child of her parents.

Zhu had no choice but to surrender himself to the police and was accompanied by his parents.

According to police, the freezer that Zhu used to store his wife’s body was bought online on 22nd Septemeber 2016. He claimed that he had purchased it to store meat for his pet snakes, frogs and lizards. However, his wife’s family believe that it was a premeditated murder and had bought the freezer with the intention of storing his wife’s dead body after killing her.

Zhu had travelled to Hainan province, Nanjing and Xuzhou cities in Jiangsu province and South Korea after the murder so that he could “forget about the killing”. He used his wife’s credit cards to pay for luxury goods and his daily expenses. He even used her ID card to check into hotel rooms.

In August, Zhu appealed the death sentence handed down by the Shanghai No 2 Intermediate People’s Court, but was sentenced to death on Friday (5th July 2019) by the Shanghai Higher People’s Court.

This is absurd! How long did he think he could get away with murdering his own wife? RIP 🙁
