JUST IN: Najib’s Appeal Rejected, Court Maintains His Sentence Of 12 Years In Jail & RM210 Million Fine
Just recently, former Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Razak applied and requested for Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat to recuse herself from presiding over his final SRC International appeal hearing.
The Chief Justice does not need to recuse herself from hearing the case, the Federal Court decided just this evening (August 23).
Sin Chew reported that the Federal Court has also upheld Najib’s conviction and sentence of 12 years in jail, including a fine of RM210 million imposed on Datuk Seri Najib who was found guilty of embezzling RM42 million in funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat along with 4 other judges made the decision after hearing the arguments and applications submitted during the final appeal last week.
“Therefore, the appeal was rejected unanimously and the conviction and sentence were upheld,” she said in a 15-page decision that was read out in court.
The former Prime Minister was convicted of abuse of power, three counts of breach of trust, and three counts of money laundering.
