Cockroaches are definitely not man’s best friend.  To many, they are some of the most annoying and disgusting pests and getting rid of them is such a pain in the butt. If they’re not flying around the room, they’re probably crawling into tiny corners making it impossible for you to reach them. Even aerosol sprays take some time to take effect.

But did you know that there is a trick to paralyse cockroaches INSTANTLY? All you need is soap! Yes, just soap.

Science alert!

According to Phys.org, cockroaches are able to hold their breath for up to seven minutes, but they have no lungs. Instead, their respiratory system is made out of external valves called spiracles that transport the air directly to the cells via tubes called the trachea.

In other words, if you want a cockroach to stop breathing, all you have to do is close those spiracles!

Respiratory System Of Cockroach

One easy way to suffocate a cockroach is to pour soap directly onto them. It can be any kind of liquid soap, be it body wash, toilet cleaner, or detergent.

Or to make things easier, mix some soap and water into a bottle and spray the concoction onto the cockroaches, which is guaranteed to paralyse them immediately.

This works because the soapy solution will cover their breathing pores and suffocate them, according to Suburban Pest Control.

I’ve personally tried this and it is super effective! Definitely my go-to solution to getting rid of cockroaches. #TriedAndTested

Additionally, this trick also works on other pests like ants as they have the same respiratory system consisting of spiracles that allow the transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide into and out of the body, according to Microcosmos.

You can use the same spray bottle of soap on the ants, or simply soak a cloth in soapy water and wipe them away!

How To Get Rid Of Ants In Your Kitchen

This method probably works for other insects that breathe through spiracles as well.

If you’re looking for a sure way to get rid of cockroaches and other pests easily, try out this method and let us know how it goes!
