Following the announcement of a potential TikTok ban in the United States (US) that will take place starting Sunday (January 19), Americans have been flocking to other social media platforms to satiate their thirst for TikTok-styled content.

And the one platform that Americans are jumping towards is China’s Xiao Hong Shu (RedNote).

According to a report by Tech Crunch, language learning application, Duolingo, has reported a 216% spike in users learning Chinese in the US following this great online migration from TikTok to Xiao Hong Shu.

On top of that, when new users are asked ‘how did you hear about us‘, a significant number of people selected ‘TikTok’ as a response.

“Oh so NOW you’re learning Mandarin,” Duolingo said in a recent X post.

There was an increase in app downloads too

The application intelligence agency, Appfigures, also shared details about the consumer demand for Duolingo’s language learning courses.

They reported a 36% increase in downloads in the US, across Apple’s App Store and Android’s Google Play store combined as of January 3, an early sign that users may have tried out different Chinese social media platforms before choosing to join Xiao Hong Shu.
