A Malaysian woman has shared her parking experience at a flat in Kajang, claiming she was scolded for parking in the public parking space area.

In her post on Threads, the woman said she parked her vehicle in an empty parking bay with no lot number and that it was neither a rented nor a reserved parking space. However, when she returned, she found a handwritten note on her windscreen that didn’t sound too pleasant.

The note read,

“If you park here, please leave your phone number. Don’t play dumb. This is my parking spot. Do you understand?”

“It’s hard to track you down in this flat; nobody knows who you are. Next time don’t park in my spot.”

Feeling frustrated, she then wrote,

“Public parking is still public parking. There’s no such thing as ‘my spot’ if there’s no ownership or exclusive right. Please don’t normalise this culture of claiming public parking spaces.”

The “reserving parking spots” culture is common there

In a conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, the woman, Adila, explained that she had parked in an empty parking bay near her block. According to her, the space was neither numbered nor rented, so she assumed it operated on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Most parking spaces at the flat had already been converted into covered lots and were marked with bins to reserve them.

“Some residents even used motorcycles to reserve public parking spaces near the Kedai Aceh (Indonesian store),” she alleged.

The following morning, as she was leaving for work, she discovered another car had parked so close to her driver’s side door that she was forced to enter her vehicle through the passenger door. While doing so, she said a man shouted at her from an upper floor, calling her “stupid”. As she was already running late and feared the situation could escalate, she chose not to respond.

She then noticed a handwritten note on her windscreen while seated in the driver’s seat.

Adila also told WORLD OF BUZZ that since the incident, she has chosen to park farther away from her block in an open parking area, where she says there are fewer covered lots and fewer disputes over parking spaces.
