A child in Jakarta, Indonesia, has gone viral for stealing a luxury Richard Mille RM 40-01 McLaren Speedtail watch, estimated to be worth IDR11.7 billion (~RM3.02 million), belonging to suspended Indonesian House of Representatives member, Ahmad Sahroni.

According to a report by CNN Indonesia, this luxury watch was stolen when Sahroni’s house in Kebon Bawang, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, was raided by rioters. A video of the child showing off the looted watch has since gone viral online.

Following this, the North Jakarta Police immediately began an investigation while local officers visited the child’s home. The child’s parents then handed over the looted watch to the local authorities.

The mother explained that she had advised her child that the watch must be returned to Sahroni as it didn’t belong to them.

“I told my child, this watch is not ours, we must return it. This is not our right,” she said while adding that she didn’t even know how to operate the luxury watch.

“We have never even held it, let alone known how to use it. We are just ordinary people.”

What was taken from Sahroni’s home

According to Sinar Harian, in addition to luxury watches, various other valuable items were also looted from the politician’s house.

Residents reportedly took Hermes and Louis Vuitton handbags, a grand piano, Iron Man and Spider-Man action figures, diplomas, land certificates, certificates of good conduct (SKCK), F1 figures, televisions, MacBooks, Air Jordan shoes, PS5s, safes and refrigerators.

Indonesia’s Deputy Chief of Police, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, has since stressed that the police will act firmly against any form of looting or disorder, and that orders have been issued to all regional and district police units to conduct large-scale patrols with the Indonesian National Army (TNI) throughout the country to ensure public safety.
