Using your debit or credit card to make purchases with PayWave is all about convenience and quickness until you realise that you’ve paid for waaay more than your actual bill.

This is why a Malaysian woman is now warning others to always check the amount they’re being charged before tapping your card.

Taking to the Travel Jimat Twitter page, she shared her experience of being charged RM98 instead of the accurate amount, which is RM29, at a famous middle eastern eatery in Kuala Lumpur. Thankfully, she noticed the overcharged amount and confronted the cashier.

“To those who pay with card, please check, ask him to scan the card on top of the counter. Because earlier when I scanned (my card), luckily I noticed he charged me RM98, when the price is only RM29 something,” she said.

“After that, when I confronted him, he was like, don’t know la like ‘alamak kantoi (got caught)’, and then he returned (the overcharged amount) to me in cash.”

She went on to urge people to always check the amount that they’re paying before tapping their cards.

“So, to those who pay with card, be careful and check la. How much the prices are, ask the cashiers and make sure you get a receipt,” she added.
