A Malaysian hiker was found dead after falling about 100 meters in the Croda del Becco area north of Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy.

The 60-year-old hiker was initially reported missing, though all hopes of finding her alive were dashed when a helicopter spotted her body at the foot of the Croda del Becco slabs, one of the most imposing peaks in the Dolomites between the Ampezzo Dolomites Natural Park and the Braies Dolomites.

According to a report by Antenna Tre, the hiker had lost track of her trail before reaching steep, smooth slabs, which led her to fall about 100 meters and end up in a crack.

She had initially separated from her friend to finish her hike, though she later sent a message to her friend informing them she was lost and needed help.

A search operation was immediately called with rescue personnel and equipment, including helicopters and drones with thermal imaging cameras. The positioning of her phone also served to help narrow down the search radius.

Sadly, she was found dead due to her fall, and her body was transported to a mortuary.

The hiker was a physician at the Metro Specialist Hospital in Kedah

According to a report by Kwong Wah, the hiker has been identified as Dr Khaw Bee Ling, who was a dedicated physician at the Metro Specialist Hospital in Sungai Petani.

She was a good doctor in the hearts of her colleagues and a gentle force in the lives of countless people,” they said.
