The “recruiting game” to lure Malaysians to become part of a phone scam syndicate in Cambodia seems to be going strong, but what goes on behind the scene can be unimaginably terrifying.

At a recent press conference held by the Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO), a few families were present, and they had a lot of “insider’s knowledge” to share with the public.

One of the victims, who is currently trapped in Cambodia with the syndicate revealed that a lot of Malaysian victims of the syndicate are dead, and the number of casualties of Malaysian victims is truly a nightmare fuel – as high as 10,000 deaths!

Death is a mercy

When the victim sought help from his mother, he revealed that the other victims in Cambodia will suffer a fate worse than death if they do not perform well in their work.

“They will be electrocuted. If the shock kills them, their body will be dumped into the wild.”

Weak performance means the victims are not bringing any money to the syndicate, so to “make up” for the losses, the unfortunate women will be forced and sold to prostitution to make more money for the syndicate.

Some women were forced to lose weight in 3 months before starting to receive “customers”.

At the press conference, the mother, Chen, said that her 2 sons were deceived to work for the syndicate and they have been locked at a park in Myanmar since late March this year.

Initially, the boys were asked to travel from Ampang to Kelantan, and when they reached Kelantan, they were smuggled into Thailand through the waterways.

“Their passports were taken away by the smugglers once they reached Thailand,” Chen added, and said that her sons contacted her via e-mail.

New batch of victims “transported”

Chen further relayed the contents of the e-mail and said that a new batch of victims, consisting of up to 50 Malaysians have been scammed and transported to Myanmar as of Monday (September 12).

Her son urged the public NOT to trust these scam tactics.

If you happen to be the family members of the deceived, you may reach out to MHO at 014-9946697. Hopefully, this will serve as a solid reminder to everyone out there to be more vigilant in job offers that seem too good to be true.
