What?! It’s already the end of the year? Time sure flies! For those movie buffs, we may have enjoyed watching the many marvellous movies that were screened in 2018 but as 2019 rolls around, we’re sure that it will supply us with even bigger and better movies!

We definitely couldn’t fit all of them in one list so here are 10 of the most anticipated movies in 2019! Remember to mark down the release dates of these blockbusters so that you won’t miss any of them!

1. Glass (17 January)

Can M. Night Shyamalan pull it off again? Glass serves as a sequel to two movies, Split (2016) and Unbreakable (2000).  Yep, it connects two movies at once! This superhero thriller movie tells the story of a security guard, Davin Dunn, with supernatural abilities on a mission to find Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man with twenty-four different personalities. He then encounters Elijah Prince, a mass murderer who holds secrets concerning both men.

Directed by: M. Night Shyamalan
Starring: Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, James McAvoy, Sarah Paulson, Anya Taylor-Joy

2. Captain Marvel (7 March)

It’s Marvel’s first female superhero with her own solo movie! Everyone was devasted by the destruction caused by Thanos in the Infinity War and some think that we’ll get some answers in Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers gains her powers to become Captain Marvel and is caught in the middle of a war between two alien races. PS: Get a look at Nick Fury when he still had two eyes!

Directed by: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck
Starring: Brie Larson, Lee Pace, Samuel L. Jackson

3. Dumbo (28 March)

Why you gotta make us cry like this again, Disney? This live-action adaptation movie tells the classic story of a gifted circus elephant in the unique style of Tim Burton. If you’re wondering how that pairing will work out then check out the trailer for yourself! If you’ve never seen Dumbo, its a tale of a circus elephant with oversized ears which enables him to fly. Recruited by a new venture called Dreamland, Dumbo discovers dark secrets that lurk within it.

Directed by: Tim Burton
Starring: Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito

4. Shazam (4 April)

In this DC superhero flick, 14-year-old foster kid Billy Batson can turn into an adult superhero by shouting out one word – Shazam! With this, he is transformed into a superhero with the powers of six ancient heroes. Solomon gives him wisdom, Hercules gives him strength, Atlas gives him stamina, Zeus gives him power, Achilles gives him courage and Mercury gives him speed. Curious to see what this 14-year-old will do with his powers? Then you need to check out this movie!

Directed by: David F. Sandberg
Starring: Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Asher Angel

5.  Avengers: Endgame (2 May)

The cliffhanger in Infinity War scarred us for life and we’re excited to see the remaining Avengers fight evil one last time to fix what Thanos did to the universe. Based on the trailer itself, we gathered that Tony’s lost in space, Ant-Man joins the fight and Hawkeye is back! Considering that this will mark the end of the Avengers series, we’ll probably have to end up saying goodbye to a few more characters in the MCU.

Directed by: Joe Russo, Anthony Russo
Starring: Everybody in the series

6. Pokémon Detective Pikachu (9 May)

First things first, have you watched the trailer yet? Pikachu is arguably one of the cutest Pokémon out there and this movie is highly anticipated! This live-action and animation hybrid is based on a video game of the same title, where Pikachu helps a teenage boy search for his missing father. Did we forget to mention that Ryan Reynold features as the voice of Pikachu? Pika pika!

7. Men in Black International (13 June)

Are Thor and Valkyrie making the another Marvel movie? Nope, we’re not talking about the Avengers: Endgame but it’s Men in Black International! This fourth installment of the Men in Black movies has Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson searching for the mole in the MiB organization. However, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not be involved in this one, unfortunately.

Directed by: F. Gary Gray
Starring: Tessa Thompson, Chris Hemsworth, Liam Neeson

8. The Lion King (18 July)

Things surely can’t go wrong with the CGI remake of this 1994 Disney classic. Have you seen the voice cast? Donald Glover, Beyoncé and James Earl Jones in one movie? We’re blessed! Hakuna Matata!

Directed by: Jon Favreau
Starring: Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones, Alfre Woodard

9. The New Mutants (1 August)

This is the next generation of X-Men with five young mutants discovering their abilities who are trying to escape and save themselves from the secret facility they are held in. You may recognise some familiar faces in this such as Game of Throne’s Maisie Williams, Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton and Split’s Anya Taylor-Joy.

Directed by: Josh Boones
Starring: Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga

It’s the final episode of the new trilogy! Even though no teasers, posters, or even the title of the movie have been released, we ought to have it on our list. It was previously scheduled to be previewed in May but was however pushed back to December. It’s definitely something you Star Wars fans out there will swoon over. Keep an eye out for the special cameos too! *wink wink*

Directed by: J. J. Abrams
Starring: Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o
