Tsutaya Books, a world-renowned Japanese bookstore chain, just opened its doors in Pavilion Bukit Jalil, and the crowd did not disappoint!

Well, it is to be expected, as the store would be Tsutaya Books’ first bookstore in Southeast Asia. Maybe it is not that bad living in Malaysia after all.

You may not want to check out the place so soon, as the store’s grand opening today has attracted droves of people to the sophisticated 1-storey bookstore today.

After the official launch of the bookstore, many people can be seen queuing up outside of the bookstore.

Crowd

The line was so long that our camera could not even capture the end of the queue. So, you might want to wait till the hype dies down a little before making your way to the new bookstore.

But if you are like us and cannot bear to wait, get ready to wait in line!

We know how you feel, because we at WORLD OF BUZZ could not wait to check out the place ourselves too!

Luckily, we got to drop by the bookstore yesterday for a quick look around the elegant space. So, here is what we think you can expect from your visit to Tsutaya Books!

What to expect

Boasting a space of 31,000 square feet, the expansive bookstore offers more than just books.

Instead, visitors will be able to have a bite at the café, relax at the lounge and browse through specialised merchandise.

Dubbed the ‘most beautiful bookstore in Japan’, one may also spend hours upon hours perfecting their photos for Instagram in this photo-op heaven.

Meanwhile, families with young children may entertain themselves at the playground and the dedicated space for family-friendly activities.

These areas have been purposefully furnished with low bookshelves for children to build positive reading habits.

Finally, if books are not your thing (we don’t judge!), do not fret because there are a ton of other products to shop for.

Mr. Hideyuki Eumoto, CEO of Tsutaya Books Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. said, “We didn’t want to settle on just selling great books. We are giving more than what they asked for. We create a creative space which encourages social interaction and escapism for people of all ages.”

Culture

The bookstore is also home to a delightful collection of curated gifts and souvenirs from fine writing stationery, art and crafts, interior decorative items, fragrances and more.

So, make sure to allocate enough time for your visit as you do not want to miss anything!
