This has to be the weirdest and funniest interview anyone has ever seen.
Recently, a Japanese pool player, Naoyuki Oi cracked up the audience with his not-so-fluent English in a post-match interview during the World Pool Masters tournament in Spain.
Naoyuki has secured himself a spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament after defeating Cheng Yu Hsuan from Taipei.
The rhapsodic player was then interviewed by Tony Wrighton, a presenter from Sky Sports.
The British interviewer started off with:
“We thought you’d won it a couple of racks before you did win it.”
Instead of giving answer corresponding to the question, Naoyuki said:
“My name is Naoyuki Oi. Today I am very, very lucky. Congratulations me! Yay! English a little. No problem. Only so.”
The interviewer was taken aback by Naoyuki’s answer, but he proceeded with the next question after a chuckle.
“So you had that shot to win it and you kind of recreated it for the crowd afterwards. When that didn’t go in, did you think, ‘I might have blown it here?”
Again, Naoyuki completely disregarded the interviewer’s question and to everyone’s surprise, he started singing the PPAP song style complete with the ‘pen and apple’ gesture. But he butchered the hand signs tho.
“I have a pen, I have an apple. Oh! Apple pen! Sonna Kanji (meaning ‘something like that’)”
Dumbfounded by the response of Naoyuki, the interviewer said:
“I’ve not ever done an interview quite like this before, Naoyuki.”
Naoyuki was chuckling away and seemed pretty proud of his PPAP song performance.
The interviewer carried on and asked:
“Do you think you can win this tournament?”
After a long hard thought, he replied:
“Hmmm. No problem!”
Unfortunately, his performance in the quarter-final round was not good enough to qualify him into the semi-final and he was then interviewed by Tony again.
When asked about how he was feeling after the match, he replied:
“Excuse me. Can I speak English? You? Me? No English. No problem. Every time. Happy!”
Then out of nowhere, Naoyuki started performing the PPAP hand gestures again. Faking a distraught, the cheeky Japanese said:
“Oh my god. Thank you. Go home. I go home!”
Naoyuki, please win the next tournament so we can get another interview of you!
