In his press conference today (2 March), Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri made several announcements. The most important one was that the MCO will no longer be implemented in KL, Selangor, Johor and Penang and instead will be replaced with CMCO.

Here are some announcements he made regarding the latest SOPs that should be followed in areas under CMCO & RMCO:

  • Interdistrict travel will be allowed but interstate travel is still not allowed.
  • Businesses will be allowed to operate from 6am to 12am after MCO is lifted.
  • As mentioned before, the creative industries will be allowed to operate and must be limited to 70 per cent capacity in areas under CMCO and 100 per cent capacity in areas under RMCO.
  • Tourism businesses (including family entertainment centres, reflexologies, spas, manicure and pedicure centres) will be allowed to operate at 50 per cent capacity in CMCO areas but in areas under RMCO, the capacity limit will be determined by how large the area is.
  • Any financial institutions registered under Bank Negara can operate as per usual.
  • Other sectors including farming and construction can operate as per usual.
  • All social events including government events, weddings, kenduri, reunions, birthday parties are allowed in areas under RMCO and CMCO. The capacity limit for areas under RMCO is determined by how large the area is and physical distancing must be maintained at all times. Meanwhile, the capacity in areas under CMCO is 50 per cent.
  • Weddings and engagement parties can be conducted for both Muslim and non-Muslim couples.

A full list of SOPs can be obtained on the MKN website here.
