To our Singaporean friends, Anthony Loke has a reminder for you. Clear your summons before leaving Malaysia.

In a press conference yesterday (June 25), Anthony Loke said that the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) will be launched on October 1st, 2024 and when the VEP is in effect, the government will not make any compromise and U-turn.

“If you have any uncleared summons, we suggest you to clear them before leaving Malaysia. With VEP, we can detect any foreign vehicles that violate the law.”

The Minister of Transport added, “I hope drivers from Singapore who regularly enter Malaysia obey the laws and regulations, similar to how Malaysian drivers abide by Singapore’s laws.”

According to Anthony, any individual who drives a foreign motor vehicle without a permit before entering or being in Malaysia is an offence according to Section 66H(7), Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).

Since April 2019, MOT has been carrying out Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) registration for foreign vehicle owners who cross the Sultan Iskandar Building CIQ Complex on the Johor Embankment as well as the Sultan Abu Bakar Building CIQ Complex on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Line.

“Owners of foreign vehicles can use this period to renew their VEPs, or obtain a new VEP.”

Anthony added that as of now, there are only 70,000 registered Singapore vehicles with activated the VEP, and around 200,000 more Singapore vehicles that have yet to activate their VEPs.

The implementation of the VEP will also be expanded on the Malaysia-Thailand land border in the near future.

Just a friendly reminder, do clear your summons and follow the traffic laws before you leave the country.
